Warraan Widji Arts is located on Wayilwan Country, on the Wambuul (Macquarie) River, where many wetlands and creeks are connected.
Our gayrr (name) and logo design is reflective of the Wayilwan Nations’ numerous waterways, important not only to our Wayilwan ancestors, who developed complex and sustainable aquacultural management practices, but also for our Wayilwan Elders today, who remember when “the rivers and creeks were so clear you could see the fish swimming beneath the water” (Aunty Min Riley and Uncle George Riley).
Warraan Widji Arts is born out of the artistic creativity of our youth and community as well as that of the Wayilwan ancestors, whose complex artistic designs and advanced astronomical knowledge contributed greatly to the sustainability of life. Warraan Widji Arts hopes to build the capacity for such life, which continually flows as a healthy river, for the future proofing of our youth and community.
